Personal Finance Curriculum for Kids Now Available
Course Teaches Kids the Basics of Money Management

Chapel Hill, North Carolina; September 2005:
The Cash Management Connection, publishers of a line of cash management workbooks for kids, teens, college students and adults, has introduced the KIDSCA$H™ Personal Finance Curriculum.  According to publisher Maureen Dolan Rosen, the new curriculum is based on her experience of the past four years teaching volunteer classes in money management to kids and teens, as well as to their parents.

“I started doing free workshops for various groups – school, churches, Scout troops – then got involved with coordinating some semester-long money management programs for the Durham Public Schools after school program. I snagged all of the financial colleagues I could find and everyone volunteered their time once or twice a week for eight weeks to teach the kids about money.” The classes were at both middle and high schools, says Rosen, and culminated in field trips to local businesses.  “We wanted them to learn about small business, too, as much as about how to manage their money, and the two businesses we contacted totally opened their hearts to these kids. It was amazing.” Rosen says that her volunteer teaching experience only served to reinforce her belief that financial management training is the single most important training currently lacking in middle and high school curriculum.  “These kids are being set up for failure, if we don’t give them the tools to learn how to care for themselves financially,” says Rosen. “With only seven states in the US having mandatory personal finance requirements for high schoolers, how do we think kids are going to learn this stuff?”

KIDSCA$H™ Personal Finance Curriculum has ten sections, covering a range of financial topics.  It includes step-by-step teaching instructions, as well as handouts and worksheets for the students. Topics covered include Banking, Money 101, Jobs and Paychecks, The Stock Market, Personal Budgeting, Life Costs, and more.  The curriculum retails for $49.95, and is available online at
